We’re delighted to share the news that the Sir John Soane octagonal table, designed for the Gothic Library in 1805, has now been formally gifted to the Stowe House Preservation Trust by Brighton & Hove Museums, following seven years on loan and looked after by the Headmaster!

This extraordinary piece sold for £14 14s in the 1848 Great Sale. It is reunited with its matching side table, acquired in 2024 by the Hall Bequest Trust, and both are on display in their original setting in the Gothic Library, the Headmaster’s study since 1923. A huge thank you to Brighton & Hove Museums for helping this remarkable furniture return home.

See it for yourself on a Secrets of Stowe Tour–summer dates coming soon.
